Crafter of the Month for July 2010

This month's Crafter of the Month is my someone that I am quickly becoming good friends with. Her name is Rhea Snider and she is from just outside of Chattanooga, TN. She is a stay at home mom to Anastasia, who is 8 years old, and Timothy II, who is 4 years old.

Some of the crafts that she has done are pillows, aprons, makeup bags, headbands and a doll quilt. She is currently woeking on making a doll out of paper clay. I can't wait to see how that will turn out. I am sure that it will look great when she is done.

Her hobbies are crafts, cooking (trying new recipes) working in her vegetable garden and also her flower garden. Roses are her favorite. She also likes to read to relax or "kill time."

Let's welcome her to the club and hopefully we will hear more from her soon. Thanks Rhea for sharing and we will see who the Crafter of August will be.

Plastic Canvas

Plastic canvas is similar to cross stitch. The patterns are similar but instead of cloth canvas the canvas is made of a soft plastic in the form of a kind of a grid.

I have been doing plastic for about 5 years now. I was placed on bed rest during my pregnancy with my youngest child. My mother started me on it to give me something to do to keep me from going crazy during my three months of bed rest. It really was relaxing and the more that I did it the more I was decorating my house.

I made everything from wall hangings, tissue box covers, coaster sets, and even block calenders. After a while I could look at the patter and all of a sudden I would see new patterns. I would make my own patterns and design my own crafts. It was really neat all of the things that I was coming up with.

Here is July's challenge for all of you. Plastic canvas is not that expensive and neither is the yarn. You can get them at Walmart. The challenge is...create something out of plastic canvas that will go with the theme of a baby shower. This could be for a boy or girl and even for multiple babies. You have until July 30th to make it and post a pic in the comment on this post. The person with the most unique post will be the Crafter of the Month for the month of August. Good luck ladies.

Plastic Canvas

Letter from the Crafty Goddess 7/6/2010

My name is Charity Tipton and I am absolutely obsessed with crafting. I love to learn about all kinds of crafts. In this blog I will spotlight several different areas of the craft genre and also spotlight the crafter of the month. If you would like to be the Crafter of the month just send an email telling me that is what you want. If you have a craft that you would like to see on here please let me know. There will also be a Pattern of the month and craft tips. I have been looking online and have seen several different crafts that I, myself, would like to try. Let me tell you a little more about me and why I am doing this blog.

Like I said, my name is Charity, and I am a 33 yr old wife, mother of 2 little girls and stepmother to 2 teens. I have been doing plastic canvas for about 5 years now. I started doing PC when I was pregnant with my youngest child. I was put on bed rest because of going into premature labor at 29 weeks and my mother got me started doing PC to keep me busy so that I was not going nuts just looking at the same four walls.

I not only do designs that I find in pattern books that I have but also have created a few patterns. For example, I had a pattern for a block calender of a lighthouse. I cut the lighthouse off and made it orange and white with a "T" on it for Tennessee because we bleed orange (Go Vols!). I also made matching coasters from a pattern that I had for sachets. They were the perfect size. There is no limit to what you can do with a pattern once you take a look at it. you can transform them into anything.

The reason that I have started this blog is because I love crafts and know that there are other people out there that do also. As soon as I see how many followers that I can get, I will start getting things together to turn this blog into a magazine. The magazine will have all of the same things that this blog has except there will be a challenge for all readers to send in pics of crafts that they have done based on a certain theme and each month the theme will change.

So, with all of that said, please enjoy the blog and please tell your friends about it. I hope to get feedback from you all and would love your input. Below is my email address. Please in the subject line please put "Crafty Goddess Blog" so that I will know that it is about this blog. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I hope to have things together soon for my next entry and even have pics. Thanks again and I hope to talk to you all soon.
